2008 June – Trivandrum, Kerala (INDIA)

Who knew Trivandrum was so beautiful? Having lived half my life in India, I never got a chance to visit this beautiful area until I actually moved to the US and visited Trivandrum,Kerala on business.

Beautiful sunsets there are something to die for. Trivandrum lies almost at the Southernmost tip of India, in the beautiful and lush green state of Kerala, otherwise known as God’s country.

We had the privilege of staying at the Taj Kovalam Resort right on the Kovalam Beach. This has been one of the best stays of my life – awesome service, awesome location and the food was to die for!! The breakfast buffet has like a million items on the menu – okay, I exaggerate a bit – but you get the point, right? After a hard day at work, the hotel swimming pool was such a welcome dip.

5 Favorite things about Trivandrum:

  1. Coconut laden trees all over the state – the lush greenery – SO reminiscent of Hawaii!!
  2. The backwater tour – not to be missed. Excellent service provided on the boat and you can laze around floating from village to village.
  3. Hospitality of the people – not only at the Taj Resort, but all over the state.
  4. The culture – soak in the smell of the spices, the vibrant colors, the abundance of temples. Just take a walk in the city and enjoy!
  5. The FOOD – as long as it is not catered to the Americans, you should be pretty safe. Stick with the authentic local flavors and relish the authentic Kerala Cuisine!!
